Paging through Leitz Auction catalogs back when, György Kepes’ work struck me in a way I’m still trying to put words to. Especially this frame1 (pulling a shot like this off in 1939 adds even more technical merit to boot).

Fast-forward to Camera West’s SoHo opening last summer. I noticed three objects in the display case: a cross-section of a Summicron lens and two blocks of glass used in Noctilux and Summilux lenses. Those objects and Kepes’ prisms shot paired in my mind and I wanted to riff on the theme.

The shop was kind enough to let me spend a couple of hours with ‘em this morning and here’s what I came up with on a roll of BwXX:
